Tourist Visa Guide

To obtain a Schengen tourist visa, follow these essential steps:

1. Determine the Schengen Country: Identify the Schengen country where you will spend
the most time or where you will enter first. If you're visiting multiple countries, apply
through the one that is your main destination.

2. Check Visa Requirements: Review the visa requirements for the specific Schengen
country on its consulate or embassy website. Ensure that you meet the general requirements
for a short-stay Schengen visa (up to 90 days).

3. Prepare Required Documents: Gather the necessary documents, including:

  • A valid passport with at least three months' validity beyond your planned stay

  • Completed Schengen visa application form

  • Recent passport-sized photos (meeting Schengen photo requirements)

  • Proof of travel arrangements (flight bookings, itinerary)

  • Proof of accommodation (hotel bookings, invitation letter if staying with friends/family)

  • Travel insurance covering medical emergencies with a minimum coverage of €30,000

  • Proof of financial support (bank statements, pay slips, etc.)

  • Visa application fee payment receipt

  • Travel itinerary and/or invitation letter from a host (if applicable)

4. Schedule an Appointment: Book an appointment with the consulate or embassy of the
Schengen country you are applying to. Some countries allow you to book online, while
others may require you to do so via a Visa Application Center (VAC).

5. Complete the Visa Application: Fill out the Schengen visa application form online or on
paper. Ensure all details are accurate and match the supporting documents.

6. Attend the Visa Interview: Attend the interview at the consulate or VAC. Bring all
required documents and be prepared to answer questions about your trip and intentions.
Some countries may require you to submit biometric data (fingerprints and a photograph).

7. Pay the Visa Fee: Pay the required visa application fee. The fee is generally around €80
for adults, though it may vary depending on the country or age group.

8. Submit Your Application: Submit your completed application, documents, and biometric
data (if applicable) to the consulate or VAC.

9. Wait for Processing: Wait for the processing of your visa. It typically takes around 15
calendar days, but this can vary depending on the embassy and the time of year. Apply well
in advance to allow for potential delays.

10. Receive Your Visa: Once your visa is approved, you will receive your passport with the
Schengen visa sticker. Ensure all details are correct, such as your name and travel dates.

11. Prepare for Travel: After receiving your visa, finalize your travel arrangements, including
accommodation, transport, and any other necessary preparations for your visit to the
Schengen Area.

By following these steps, you can successfully apply for and receive a Schengen tourist visa,
allowing you to travel within the 27 Schengen Area countries.
